Norwegian footwear since 1920
When our founding father, Peter Mathias Røwde, started making rubber products to combat the harsh Norwegian climate. In fact, the very first product we made was inspired by the needs of local farmers: The classic rubber boot was perfect for battling rain, snow and wet conditions.
Soon, Viking boots were used by fishermen, foresters and all kinds of explorers. They walked through mud, stood steady on rocks and rambled through cold winter days. 98 years later, our product range has grown to satisfy more needs, but we’re still true to our founder’s initial idea. A logo is like a personal signature or handwriting - it expresses the soul that owns it. Viking is a “down to earth” company – both in our attitude and with our products; our footwear protects your bare feet from the harsh environment outdoors. We don’t brag and show off.We simply make footwear for rugged use, built to be extremely durable and to tackle the harsh conditions of nature. Our logo reflects this.
The word “Viking” is said to mean “a person from Viken” which is the bay area around the Oslo fjord, in south eastern Norway. The word “Viking” has long been associated with being strong, robust, rough and tumble, full of courage, brave and having a go-getter attitude. That’s how our ancestors lived their lives, and we still keep the spirit of the word alive in our products too.We have been making shoes for Nordic conditions since 1920, and it is something we still do and will carry on doing.
